Shake the Dust™

Movement. Connection. Liberation.
Work out to work in.

Shake the Dust™ is more than a workout. It is a transformative, embodied practice of body, heart and mind and a form of activism through movement.

Guided by a theme and an epic playlist, we move together through waves of shaking, jumping, dancing, intuitive movement and rest, weaving in elements of yoga, Pilates, somatics and bodyweight strength.

It can be sweaty and strong, playful and expressive, quiet and deeply restful.

Movement as liberation

So much of life asks us to control, contain, achieve and perform. Shake the Dust™ offers us space to explore something different.

To shake. To make noise. To take up space. To feel our strength and our joy. To move without needing to look a particular way. To rest without having to earn it.

There is no choreography and nothing to get “right”. Instead, movement, music, breath and sensation become ways of coming back into relationship with ourselves.

For me, this is movement as liberation not liberation from the body, but liberation through being more fully in it.

Connection to self, each other and the earth

While each of us has our own experience, we practise together.

We feel our feet meeting the earth. We experience rhythm, breath, vibration and sensation. We move alongside other bodies and experience what it is to be both individual and part of something larger.

This connects deeply with the non-dual Tantrik philosophy that underpins the way I hold embodied practice: we don't have to transcend or escape our humanness to find something sacred. We can meet life here, through this body, this breath, this moment, recognising our connection with ourselves, each other and the living world around us.

Movement as activism

Shake the Dust™ invites us to explore the relationship between personal and collective change.

When we practise listening to ourselves, taking up space, recognising old patterns, expressing what is alive and experiencing greater freedom and choice in our bodies, we can also become curious about how we want to meet each other and the wider world.

The movement may begin with the individual, but it doesn't have to end there.

Personal liberation meets collective intention.

A nervous-system-informed practice

As a psychotherapist, yoga and embodied movement facilitator, I bring a nervous-system-informed and trauma-aware lens to the way I hold Shake the Dust™.

Rather than remaining at one level of intensity, we move in waves building energy through shaking, jumping, strength and expression before moving towards slower somatic movement, grounding, stillness and rest.

This pendulation between activation and settling, effort and ease, expansion and contraction gives us an opportunity to explore different states through the body.

The intention isn't to remain permanently calm. It is to develop our capacity to be with ourselves through the movement of life noticing when we want fire and when we need softness, when we want to explore an edge and when we need to step back.

Everything is an invitation and choice remains yours.

What to expect

Expect an epic soundscape and a practice weaving together shaking · jumping · yoga · Pilates · strength · somatic movement · dance · intuitive movement · breath · stillness · deep rest.

No choreography. No dance experience needed. Nothing to perform.

This is a practice for ALL.

I bring Shake the Dust™ to studios, gyms and community spaces across Lancashire through pop-up classes and events. Each practice carries its own theme and soundscape, so while the foundations remain, every Shake the Dust™ experience is a little different.

Come as you are.
Move. Shake. Sweat. Feel. Connect. Rest.

Work out to work in and perhaps meet a little more of yourself along the way.
