Somatic Rest in Movement is a gentle, floor-based somatic movement class designed to help you reconnect with your body in a way that feels supportive, and unforced.
This class is not about stretching harder or pushing through discomfort. Instead, it offers a slow, mindful approach to movement that helps reduce tension, improve mobility, and support your nervous system, especially if your body feels stiff, tired, painful, or overwhelmed.
Movement is taken at an easy pace, with plenty of time to pause, rest, and notice how your body responds.
Rest in Movement uses simple, natural movements that allow your body to soften and reorganise itself, rather than being forced into positions.
You’ll be guided to:
Move slowly and gently
Take regular pauses between movements
Notice how your body feels before, during, and after moving
Rest whenever you need
These pauses are an important part of the practice. They allow your body and nervous system time to settle, helping movement feel more easeful and supported.
Most of the class takes place on the floor, with options to make movements accessible and comfortable. Any transitions are taken slowly, and you are always encouraged to move in a way that works for your body.
This class is especially supportive if you experience:
Stiffness or reduced mobility
Ongoing aches and pains
Arthritis or joint discomfort
Fibromyalgia or chronic pain
Stress, anxiety, or nervous system overwhelm
Fatigue or low energy
Difficulty getting up and down from the floor
A sense of feeling disconnected from your body

You don’t need any previous experience of yoga or movement.
There is no pressure to get things “right” and no expectation to keep up.

Located in the heart of the community, you can join any of the yoga classes in person at St Christophers Church Hall, Blackpool Road, Lea. There is plenty of parking at the church or at the Pig and Whistle car park next door, there is also a bus stop just outside if that’s how you roll.
All yoga equipment is provided including mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets and eye pillows, however if you want to bring your own you are more than welcome.
