Somatic Rest in Movement is a gentle, floor-based somatic movement class designed to help you reconnect with your body in a way that feels supportive, and unforced.

This class is not about stretching harder or pushing through discomfort. Instead, it offers a slow, mindful approach to movement that helps reduce tension, improve mobility, and support your nervous system, especially if your body feels stiff, tired, painful, or overwhelmed.

Movement is taken at an easy pace, with plenty of time to pause, rest, and notice how your body responds.

What This Class Is Like

Rest in Movement uses simple, natural movements that allow your body to soften and reorganise itself, rather than being forced into positions.

You’ll be guided to:

  • Move slowly and gently

  • Take regular pauses between movements

  • Notice how your body feels before, during, and after moving

  • Rest whenever you need

These pauses are an important part of the practice. They allow your body and nervous system time to settle, helping movement feel more easeful and supported.

Most of the class takes place on the floor, with options to make movements accessible and comfortable. Any transitions are taken slowly, and you are always encouraged to move in a way that works for your body.

How This Can Help

This class is especially supportive if you experience:

  • Arthritis or joint discomfort

No Experience Needed

You don’t need any previous experience of yoga or movement.
There is no pressure to get things “right” and no expectation to keep up.

You are welcome to:

  • Take breaks

  • Modify movements

  • Sit or lie down

  • Skip anything that doesn’t feel right

This is a respectful, non-judgemental space where your body sets the pace.

Book online: Exchange - £9 pay as you go online or £49.50 for a 6 class pass or £60 for an 8 class pass that is valid for up to 1 year to be used in any of our classes (except our monthly Yintegrate to Elevate or Shake the Dust)

Located in the heart of the community, you can join any of the yoga classes in person at St Christophers Church Hall, Blackpool Road, Lea. There is plenty of parking at the church or at the Pig and Whistle car park next door, there is also a bus stop just outside if that’s how you roll.

All yoga equipment is provided including mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets and eye pillows, however if you want to bring your own you are more than welcome.
