Welcome to Somatic Movement & Calm Yoga, a nurturing, floor-based class designed to harmonise body and mind through gentle, intuitive movement. This session blends somatic practices with slow yoga, inviting you into a deeply embodied experience that supports tension release, nervous system regulation, and inner calm. Whether you're working with back, knee, or hip sensitivities or simply seeking a gentler practice this class offers a supportive, explorative space to move with ease and awareness.
Gentle Somatic Movement
We begin with slow, floor-based movements that help you reconnect with your body’s natural intelligence. These include:
Pandiculation – the body’s instinctive stretch-and-release mechanism that helps recalibrate your nervous system.
Fascial unwinding – a process of intuitive movement that supports the release of held tension and restrictions in the fascia.
These techniques restore natural movement patterns, promote healing, and awaken deeper body awareness.
Embodied Movement & Exploration
You’ll be encouraged to move in ways that feel nourishing and intuitive, shifting from doing movement to being in movement. This embodied approach supports personal agency, integration, and somatic safety.
Breath Work
We integrate calming breath techniques throughout the session to support relaxation and deepen the effects of each movement and stretch.
Mindfulness & Rest
Each class ends with guided relaxation or meditation, allowing you to integrate the practice and leave feeling grounded, refreshed, and spacious.
Fascial release & nervous system reset
Softens chronic holding patterns and helps regulate your baseline of ease and safety.
Improved mobility & flexibility
Encourages range of motion through intuitive, non-forceful movement.
Stress relief & emotional support
Supports emotional wellbeing by calming the nervous system and creating space for rest.
Deeper body awareness
Cultivates a kind and curious connection with your body’s signals and sensations.
Greater embodiment
Encourages movement from the inside out, grounding you in presence, wholeness, and authenticity.

I am Moira your yoga teacher, a little bit about me and yoga – I have been practicing yoga for about 9 years and I don’t think it’s a coincidence that it was just after I qualified as a psychotherapist that I embarked on my yoga journey. Initially I was all in, hot yoga, rocket yoga, cardio yoga and while this served a purpose at the time I now know I missed so much of what yoga truly is. With my yoga teacher Laura, I have been on a journey that has truly been transformational. Now, I slow it all down, I create space to breath, to be, to connect my mind, body and breath so I can move through life consciously connected to myself and others.
Located in the heart of the community, you can join any of the yoga classes in person at St Christophers Church Hall, Blackpool Road, Lea. There is plenty of parking at the church or at the Pig and Whistle car park next door, there is also a bus stop just outside if that’s how you roll.
St Christophers Church Hall is a lovely room, perfect for yoga, it is warm, clean and relaxing, its important you feel safe and welcome when you come along. I cant wait to welcome you there.
All yoga equipment is provided including mats, bolsters, blocks, blankets and eye pillows, however if you want to bring your own you are more than welcome.
